On March 28th 2017, CWEEL-EA under it’s liaison Caroline Makenzi, held its first Breakfast Meeting at the Strathmore University. The event was sponsored by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) which has been highly committed to supporting and encouraging the activities of women in the energy and engineering sector.
The event attracted men and women energy professionals from different companies which included GDC, ERC, KenGen, KPLC, EABL, JKUAT, KU, Sarova Hotels, Strathmore Energy Research Centre, Strauss Energy and Ketraco.
The Guest Speaker for the event was Dr. Herta von Stiegel, the founder and Executive Chair of Ariya Capital Group Limited. Dr. Herta centered her speech around ‘The Need for Brave Female Leadership to Secure Africa’s Green Revolution’ in a bid to encourage the female attendees to be bold leaders in the engineering space and not shy away from making a difference in not just the energy sector, but also in other environments that they operate in. The talk also urged men to support women to enable them to reach their maximum potential in order to allow them to make sustainable changes in the environment.
In 2017, CWEEL-EA looks forward to undertaking different activities such as site visits, hosting of networking events and working with different groups that are focused on promoting the role of women in different sectors not limited to just engineering.
